When early in the morning a light illuminated the kitchen

 

     

God is our confidence and strength, a help in the great needs that have hit us. Therefore we are not afraid. (Psalm 46:2-3)

In his book "The Power of Positive Thinking" (less esoteric than the title might suggest) Norman V. Peale wrote in the chapter on faith healings: 
For a long time I have received reports from my readers, radio listeners and parishioners of healings brought about by faith. I have examined all these examples meticulously to make sure of their truth.  

I find this investigative approach quite praiseworthy, for it is exactly this that has long been neglected, especially by free churches. Are there healings of faith not sufficiently researched and documented.
    Peale wrote further: In all cases I examined, I let a sufficiently long time pass that it was not only a temporary improvement but a permanent healing.
       As an example, here is an experience that was shared with me by a woman whose love of truth and reliability is beyond doubt. The case is also scientifically documented. The woman suffered from a malignant tumor, the immediate surgical removal of which was ordered by the doctors.

In short, the woman was very afraid of the operation and did not believe in a successful outcome. She was convinced that she would have to die anyway. In her distress she sought God's help alone and united with other brothers and sisters in prayer. And experienced comfort and strengthening in her need. But even more:

One morning, ..., I noticed how the kitchen was suddenly flooded with a bright light, and at my side I felt a pressure, as if a person was standing very close to me. I understood that the healing hand of God had been laid upon me. The symptoms of her illness disappeared. The next morning the progress was so clear that I called my girlfriend on the phone and told her that I was convinced I was healed.

And then I was closed. When she wrote this in a letter to Peale fifteen years later, she was still in perfect health.

There are always reports of extraordinary healings in Christian evangelistic events... According to her accompanying relatives, this young 20-year-old woman has never been able to walk before:

In the cover picture the preacher checks if she can feel something in her deaf legs. She affirms it ...in the end he takes away her promise to walk daily because her muscles would have to develop.

Can one arrive at a personal Certainty of God?

"I hear the message well, but I have no faith!" (Heinrich Faust)

The Christian message - about Jesus to God - has spread worldwide. There may be people who may never have heard or understood this message. But I think that a large part of humanity feels the same way as Heinrich Faust did in Goethe's tragedy. You heard the message and somehow understood it, but you remained unbelieving.
     This can have several reasons, but the most obvious is of course that there is no clear (objective) proof of the existence of the biblical God. There is only the assertion of His existence and experience in the earth space.
     But how resilient is this assertion. Can such reported experiences of God not also be lies and deception? Can there really be such a point of subjective certainty of God, beyond wishful thinking and misinterpretations? 
   But, I think that experiences can become unambiguous, that other imaginable interpretations fade completely behind them. To illustrate this now, I would like to refer back to a biblical story. It doesn't matter whether it really happened or not. We assume it - as a working hypothesis - simply to be true

             The judgment of God on Carmel
                               (1.Kings 18)

All the people of Israel had gathered on Mount Carmel:

And Elijah said unto the people, I am left only a prophet of the LORD: but the prophets of Baal are four hundred and fifty men.
   Now therefore give us two young bulls, and let them choose one bull, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, but put no fire on it; and I will prepare the other bull, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire on it.
   And call ye the name of your God, and I will call upon the name of the LORD. Which God then shall answer with fire is he God. And all the people answered and said, This is right.
After the Baal priests had called upon their God for many hours in vain, Elijah came to his sacrificial animal:
"LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and I thy servant, and that I have done all this according to thy word.
   Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that their hearts are returned to you.
    And the fire of the LORD came down, and devoured burnt offerings, and wood, and stones, and earth, and licked up the water in the ditch.
When all the people saw them, they fell on their faces and said: The LORD is God, the LORD is God.
So much for history. Now my question: "Assuming that history really took place in this way, would there be the slightest reasonable doubt that the biblical God has answered?
  Anyone who would experience something like this, especially at a time when there were no great technical aids, would probably be convinced. The evidence of the divine is obvious, one could also speak of a revelation of God.
    Of course, here too a hard-boiled eyewitness and skeptic could claim: "This is not objective proof. It could also be something magically mystical, Elijah could only bring energies to compression and discharge, etc. "There are no limits to the inventiveness of a skeptic who simply does not want to believe. The normal person sees, understands and believes after such an event.
    In this sense, I mean that, provided that God really exists, one can also arrive at a personal certainty of God. Anyone who experiences such a clear revelation of God will no longer be able to hold on to his unbelief with a clear conscience.
All well and good, some people may think, if I would have such an experience of God, I would also be able to believe. But I did not!
   This is indeed a weighty argument, because without a personal experience of God there is also no (subjective) certainty of God. So everything remains the same?

I think that it does not have to be like this. Of course one cannot force God to reveal himself. Or to give you a revival experience. It is and always will be a sovereign act of grace of God.
   But personally I am convinced that one can certainly increase the probability of such a personal revelation. "He who seeks finds. He who knocks will be opened" . Jesus gave this promise in the Sermon on the Mount. And many people are of the opinion that they have actually experienced this. So I can only encourage you to make such an attempt ... and then to wait what happens!

The Miracle of Vienna

In 1529 the Ottoman army had camped off Vienna and the city threatened to be conquered. With the fall of the Habsburg capital, the way to the Rhine would have been clear.
    That this did not happen is due to a strange circumstance. There was an unusual onset of winter with snowfall for the season (October), for which the Ottomans were not equipped. And so they withdrew without having achieved anything. What the Viennese regarded as an act of God and held corresponding thanksgiving services.

When the Ottomans reappeared at the gates of Vienna in 1683, they were surprised to discover that the Viennese had not remained inactive in the meantime and had developed their city into an almost impregnable fortress.
    But they didn't want to take things off again and so they started digging underground tunnels with the idea of blowing them up from there. When the Viennese got wind of this, they also began to dig tunnels to counter the danger. Which ended in a real showdown. The breakthrough into the Ottoman tunnel came just as the fuse was already laid on a huge explosive charge. At the last moment, the men succeeded in extinguishing it and averting a catastrophe.
   Things finally turned out well for the Viennese and the Christian Occident. A courier was secretly sent out with an urgent request for help and the Lorraine and Polish people, who had hitherto been passive, decided to rush to help the troubled Viennese. The attack of the Polish hordes of horsemen hit the safe Ottomans so unprepared that they were almost destroyed. And they didn't try again after that.

   Also this time many thanksgiving services were held, because the second salvation of Vienna was regarded as a renewed act of God. As a miracle, that speaks for itself. If the tunnel had been breached just a few seconds later, the story would have taken a completely different course.

Who seeks Him, will probably also find Him

 There are 1000 and more "reasons" that speak against the correctness of the Christian faith. Contrary to my true conviction, I could deny it with razor-sharp logic and would certainly also receive applause from the appropriate side. But it would also be denying my own life story.
    I really understand that people are trapped in their very personal error and do not recognize the truth of the Gospel. I would probably be in a similar state if my eyes had not been opened more than 30 years ago and the grace of recognition had not been granted to me.
    It was a really dramatic story back then that led to my conversion. Those who read it will understand that I cannot help but believe in Jesus, my Savior: Saved from the Devil's Kitchen

  From this personal experience it is relatively clear to me that one can hardly convince anyone argumentatively of the Christian faith. You have to experience something in order to grasp it. Something greater than any rational reason that speaks against faith.
    To cut a long story short: If you really want to know whether the Christian faith is right, you should put all your counter-arguments on hold for a while and go on a search - honestly and seriously.
    On it rests a great biblical promise: He who seeks me will find me, and he who knocks on my door will be opened (Matthew 7)
